At Home in San Antonio's
Face of the Month Award

This month's award goes to the City of San Antonio Environmental Services..... otherwise known as people who are too stupid to even pick up garbage properly. Twice week they come through the neighbor hood to pick up the garbage. The cans can weigh no more than 40 pounds, or they won't pick it up. They don't want you to use cans with wheels, because when they slam them to the ground, the wheels break off and causes the supervisors to have to go around repairing garbage cans (actually, I think this is all the supervisors ever do). They will take branches if they are 4' long or less and bundles. I set a 3' single branch out once and the third time they didn't pick it up I asked the sfb who was picking up garbage why he didn't take it. He smirked and said, "It isn't bundled." So you set your light wheeless cans out next to the street and they come by and empty them into their truck. Then they will usually throw them into the yard, or leave them in the street, or block your driveway. Many times I have come home only to have to stop in the middle of the street to move cans so that I can pull into my driveway. I've complained for many years through emails to city staffers and elected officials, and with phone calls to city services and conversations with supervisors. Doesn't do any good. Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and it annoys the pig.
Here is what I encountered on Jan 22, 2004 in only 4 blocks in my subdivision.
This guy is lucky. He has a wide driveway and can probably get around the can
Looks like this guy will have to get out of his car before he pulls in
The can is laying across the driveway about 10 feet from the street. If you put your garbage this far from the street, they won't pick it up
Blocking the driveway AND in the street
In the street, in front of the truck, and the cans aren't tall enough to be seen from the driver's seat
Come on guys.... this is getting old
I think maybe a 9 inch curb is too high to lift an empty can over
Put one up where it belongs, and just lay the other one in the street
There's a good chance this can will get run over
......and more
This car is parked behind another car. He will have to back up to leave. If he goes to the car from the front, he will never know this can is there till he runs over it
A small car might squeeze by
How's this for just throwing the cans
Another view. I'm sure that's not where the garbage idiots found the cans
What more can I say
